World Saree Day 2023: Why do we celebrate saree day?
World Saree Day is an initiative to celebrate the beauty of the saree. It is celebrated on December 21 every year.
Without sarees, the world would be less colourful. Since many years ago, sarees have played an important role in Indian culture. Sarees have always been well ahead of their time in terms of fashion. They represent elegance while announcing comfort and confidence, making them an essential part of all celebrations and occasions.
With a wide variety of fabrics and textures from various origins, several weaves are created. Each state leaves its stamp on the world through its sarees, from the Paithani craftsmanship of Kanchipuram to the cotton sarees of Bengal to Ahmadabad.
Sarees are well known throughout the world for the rich history and tradition they represent, in addition to their popularity in India. Sarees are more than just a piece of clothing for a large portion of the global population.
WHY DO WE CELEBRATE SAREE DAY?
This festival mainly honours the weavers who have refined their skills through many generations to improve their experience. The wearer and the weaver form a link through the saree. Sarees enable potent emotional interaction by guiding the wearers through the creativity, joy, and difficulty that went into the creation.
Sarees have existed for thousands of years, and we are now seeing them develop into a rich source of artistic expression. Over time, sarees have changed to suit societal shifts as well as changes in women's needs. Due to their adaptability, they allow for countless experimenting options.
To name a few recent examples, there have been statement blouses, belts, and an exotic mix of weaves that range from colour-blocked to monochromatic. Sarees continue to elicit reactions that are unmatched by any other form of apparel, and there is yet much more evolution to see.
