Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day 2023: Every year, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day is celebrated on October 15. Here are some quotes and messages you can share on this day

Becoming a parent and bringing a new life with your partner is a feeling that is subliminal and incomparable to any other in this world. A newborn changes people's lives in innumerable ways with its arrival and along with the change comes lots and lots of perks of becoming a parent.

These little infants are the centre of the lives of their parents and the mere thought of any harm coming their way is enough to shake the people around them. While every parent wants their child to always be protected and thriving, unfortunately, sometimes because of health issues, absence of medical facilities or simply any other unfortunate circumstance, people have to face their worst fear of losing their infant children and are left devastated and grieving.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day: Date and History

Established in 2002 to honour, celebrate, and remember babies who passed away before turning 1, the movement was begun by Robyn Bear, Lisa Brown, and Tammy Novak, who petitioned the United States federal government to recognise the specific day on October 15th.

Since 2006, when the US government declared October as the month of pregnancy and infant loss remembrance day, every year the day is observed on October 15. Although more prevalent in western countries like the USA, UK, Canada, etc., the day tries to bring awareness by openly talking about pregnancy-related losses which include miscarriages, stillbirths and other causes of neonatal deaths and helping the grieving parents to overcome their loss.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day: Significance

The official colours associated with the day are a pink and blue ribbon and are marked by candle marches and prayers across the region.

The pain of losing a newborn is devastating and can greatly damage the mental health of grieving parents and family members. It, therefore, becomes really important to remove the stigma related to open discussion of the topic and help those in need with all the emotional support that can be given.
