Goddess Shailaputri is the first form of Navadurga and is worshipped on the first day of Navratri. Her name means "Daughter of the Mountain" (Shaila means mountain, and Putri means daughter*). She is the incarnation of Goddess Parvati, who was born as the daughter of King Himavan (the King of the Himalayas).
