In the latter part of the twentieth century and into the early part of the twenty-first century, the campaign to fight human trafficking made strides. The Trafficking Victims Protection Act (2000) was a legislation to comprehensively address modern-day slavery. Free The Slaves, an anti-slavery organisation in the U.S., was created as well. In 2007, the United States Senate established January 11th as National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, recognising the prevalence of human trafficking in the country. In 2010, President Obama launched a campaign in January called Trafficking: Month of Awareness and Prevention, which aimed to help raise awareness of and combat human trafficking. There are now over 50 well-known groups that fight this unlawful activity worldwide, and the global community is now more aware of the problem than ever before.
