Dhanteras 2023: Date, Time, Rituals and Significance of Dhantrayodashi

 Dhanteras is one of the major festivals of Hindus which is celebrated across the country with immense happiness and zeal. People offer prayers to Goddess Laxmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity and Lord Kuber. This day is also celebrated as Dhanvantri Jayanti. Dhanteras is going to be celebrated on Trayodashi Tithi that's why it is also known as Dhanatrayodashi.

Dhanteras 2023: Significance

Dhanteras holds a great significance among Hindus. This is one of the most important festivals in Hindu religion and celebrated all over the country with great grandeur and enthusiasm. People celebrate this festival on a grand level and decorate their house with lights, flowers, rangoli and diyas. This festival is famous for purchasing new things as it is considered auspicious to do so. This is the festive season and the crown can be seen in the markets. They buy new clothes, new household items, gold and silver.

People religiously celebrate the festival and perform puja to Lord Ganesha, Goddess Laxmi, Lord Kuber and Lord Dhanvantri also. It is believed that this was the when Goddess Laxmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity and Lord Dhanvantir who is known as the lord of Ayurveda or god of medicine were appeared from the milky ocean at the time of Samudra Manthan or Churning of ocean.

This is the only day when people worship the Lord of death, Yama Dev and perform puja and seek his blessings for the long life and well being of every family member in the family. There is a famous ritual of worshipping Lord Yama by lighting a four faced earthen lamp or diya outside the house and sprinkle the gangajal around it and seek blessings of Lord Yama.

As per astrology, it is must to keep this earthen lamp towards the south west direction. It is the direction of Lord Yama Dev and then pray for the good health and well being of the members. It is believed that by lighting this diya, one can get relieved from the untimely death and fear of death.

Dhanteras 2023: Puja Rituals

1. Wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath.

2. Clean the house and especially puja room.

3. Decorate your house inside as well as outside.

4. During Puja Muhurat, place an idol of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Laxmi, Lord Kuber and Lord Dhanvantri.

5. Perform puja by lighting a diya with desi ghee, put tilak, offer garland and offer them sweets.

6. Purchase anything during the shubh muhurat and keep that things in front of the idol and perform puja by putting tilak and energizing it with incense stick.

7. In the evening light a diya outside house towards southwest direction offering to Lord Yama.
