Happy Karnataka Rajyotsava 2023: Karnataka Formation Day, or Karnataka Day or Kannada Rajyotsava is observed on November 1 every year. The day commemorates when Kannada dominant regions in South India merged together as one to form the state of Karnataka. Let us have a look in detail.


Happy Karnataka Rajyotsava 2023: The southern state celebrates 'Karnataka Rajyotsava' on 1 November and on this date in 1956 Kannada- speaking regions in southern India merged to form what is known today Karnataka, the state which got its current name in 1973.

On 28 October 2021, around 5 lakh singers sang popular Kannada songs at 1000 iconic tourist attractions in Karnataka. It was organised as an event as a part of the state government's Kannada Rajyotsav celebrations. About Rajyotsava Awards 

To observe foundation day, the state's official red and yellow flags adorn the streets, houses, and official buildings. It also marks the annual presentation of the Rajyotsava Awards and is the second-highest civilian honour in the state. It was instituted in 1966 and is presented to the people in various fields including agriculture, environment, education, journalism, judiciary, literature, medicine, music, sports, social service among others.

Karnataka Foundation Day is a public holiday in the state and also sees the hoisting of the official Karnataka flag which is followed by an address by the Chief Minister and the Governor of the state.

About Karnataka

It is situated in the southwestern region of India and is one of the most prosperous states in India. The capital of the state is Bengaluru. It has made tremendous progress in various fields including education, industry, agriculture, literature, and tourism.

On 1 November 1956, Karnataka state was formed when the States Reorganisation Act came into effect. At that time Karnataka was known as the State of Mysore. In 1973, it was renamed Karnataka.

Karnataka was bounded by the states of Goa and Maharashtra to the north.

To the east, it is bounded by Telangana.

To the southeast, it is bounded by Tamil Nadu.

To the south and west, it is bounded by Kerala and the Arabian Sea, respectively.

The population density of Karnataka state is 319 per sq. km. The decadal growth rate of Karnataka's population is around 15.7%. As per 2011 Census, the population of Karnataka was recorded as 61.13 million and out of this around 61.43% reside in the rural areas.
