Purpose of celebration To appreciate, assess and improve the educators of the world.
There is no denying to the fact that teachers play an important role in deciding the fate of children and thus of the nation overall. Everyone needs a teacher at certain stage, be it your mother, father or friend, they can all be a mentor to you who help you achieve your personal objectives. A teacher is someone who shows you the right path and keeps you motivated till you meet your goals. For the betterment of the teachers and teaching profession, it is important to dedicate a day where we can discuss the issues faced in teaching.
World Teachers’ Day offers an opportunity to appreciate the teachers and for everything they do for us. According to UNESCO, ‘everyone can help by celebrating the profession, by generating awareness about teacher issues and by ensuring that teacher respect is part of the natural order of things’.
The World Teachers’ Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 1994 to commemorate the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.
This recommendation clearly states the standards of education personnel policy, recruitment, initial training, continuing education of teachers, their employment and working conditions. The World Teachers’ Day acts as an instrument to address the status and situations of teachers around the world.
The World Teacher Day will be celebrated on October 5 2023 with events and campaigns organized all around the world. Every year UNESCO and Education International (EI) come with a theme every year that states the agenda for the Teacher’s Day celebration and every celebration revolves around this theme. Many cultural fests and events are also organized in schools and colleges to honor the teachers for their service. Students can pay tribute to their teachers on this day by means of a simple gift or a thank you card and let them know how much you value their teaching.
Any teacher in your life deserves a bit of respect and tribute on this day so do not make to forget to make the teachers feel special on the occasion of World Teacher’s Day 2023.
