International Nurses Day, is celebrated around the world on May 12 every year. This day marks the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth, founder of modern nursing. The event was established in 1974 by the International Council of Nurses (ICN). It highlights the important role played by nurses in fulfilling health care. On this day, we honour the contribution made by the Nurses around the world. They take care of society without thinking about their own health. The current pandemic has seen the biggest contribution of them to society.

ICN's theme for International Nurses Day 2023 is 'A Vision for future healthcare'. focusing on the true value of nurses to the people of the world. It honours the contribution of nurses to the World Health. As the world is facing COVID-19 outbreak, nurses have played a major part in combating the virus and treating the patients. Nurses are the voice to lead the world as they are important for world health.
Significance
Nurses are the frontline warriors during any pandemic or war. They contribute to the world selflessly. We should thank these brave warriors for everything they have done to make the world a better place. Every year, ICN celebrates International Nurses Day with the production and distribution of promotional & educational materials. It raises issues and challenges faced by the nursing profession. In Australia, Canada, the United States, and many other countries, International Nurses Day is a part of the weeklong celebration, that is usually referred to as National Nurses Week.
