When to celebrate Krishna Janmashtami ??

According to the Drik Panchang, this year Krishna Janmashtami will be celebrated on 18th and 19th August, 2022 as Ashtami Tithi will be starting from 18th August and it will end on 19th August, 2022 so it will be celebrated on both days but according to the astrologer Nandini Sharma, the fast will be observed on 19th of August as Ashtami Tithi will be Udaya Tithi on that particular day.
Lord Krishna was born under rohini nakshatra but this year, rohini nakshatra is not falling on Ashtami Tithi.

Krishna Janmashtami 2025: Significance

According to the Hindu Scriptures, Lord Krishna is the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and he was born as the eighth son of Vasudeva and Devki on eighth day (Ashtami Tithi) under rohini nakshatra. Lord Krishna took birth in Mathura in Dwaparyuga.

Lord Krishna was very naughty during his childhood. He is known to be a Makhan Chor as he is famous for stealing butter. He killed many demons in his childhood. Lord Krishna even killed his maternal uncle (Mama) in his early age as he wanted to kill Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna is worshipped during this day in the form of Laddoo Gopal Ji.

Krishna devotees consider him as their supreme God, leader, protector, philosopher, teacher and a very good friend. Krishna Janmashtami has a great significance all over the world. Lord Krishna devotees observe strict fast on this day from sunrise till midnight 12 AM because he was born at midnight.

Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated with great pomp and show, all the temples are decorated with lights and flowers. In Maharashtra, people perform Dahi-Handi to celebrate the festival. In Vrindavan and Mathura, people also celebrate this festival with much zeal.

Devotees prepare various dishes and sweets to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna. In all Krishna temples, 56 types of bhog prasad are offered to Lord Krishna. It is a very strong belief that Lord Krishna comes at midnight and consumes bhog prasad made by his devotees.
