Shahu Maharaj Jayanti 2021: We observe Shahu Maharaj Jayanti on June 26, and this year it’s his 130th birth anniversary. This day is celebrated to commemorate the king of the Indian princely state of Kolhapur, Shahu Maharaj of the Bhosle dynasty is also known as Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj or Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj.

Shahu Maharaj was born on June 26, 1874, as Yeshwantrao in the Ghatge Maratha family to Jaisingrao and Radhabai. Shahu is considered to be one of the most important social reformers of his time. He was worshipped, admired and widely loved before independence in central India. He passed away on May 6, 1922, and his death anniversary was commemorated as Shahu Maharaj Punyatithi.

Shahu’s father was the village chief, while his mother belonged to the Mudhol royal family. He began to rule Kohlapur in 1894 and ruled the state until his death in 1922. After becoming king, he was renamed Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj.
